Background

Datalogix, a leader in purchase-based audience targeting, required a secure, scalable, and automated Managed File Transfer solution to handle massive inbound and outbound data transfers. South River Technologies’ MFT platform provided robust security, automation, and workflow optimization, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and seamless operations.

South River Technologies’ support group has been great to work with. They helped us to thoroughly test and hit the goals of our implementation plans. Our needs have always been addressed promptly.

Introduction

Datalogix receives thousands of gigabytes of data each month from its member companies. These organizations transmit sales transaction data through file transfers that can range from several hundred megabytes to several thousand gigabytes.

In addition to handling large volumes of inbound data, Datalogix also manages significant outbound data delivery. Clients receive marketing lists tailored to specific criteria, adding further demand to the system.

To support these operations, Datalogix required a Secure File Transfer platform that was easy to manage and configure. Beyond security, the solution needed strong automation capabilities and tools to manipulate inbound files. It also had to integrate smoothly with the internal workforce and existing user authentication systems.

With growing concerns around data security and rapidly increasing data volumes, Datalogix needed a system capable of both protecting sensitive information and handling higher transfer rates efficiently.

The company’s data import processes added further complexity. These included scheduled batch transfers, on-demand transfers initiated by clients, and “pull” processes where Datalogix staff logged into partner systems to retrieve files. This required a flexible solution that could support multiple transfer methods without sacrificing efficiency.

Datalogix operates a co-op database that aggregates transactional data from a wide range of member companies. These range from small organizations with limited technical capabilities to large enterprises transmitting massive volumes of data.

To meet these diverse requirements, Datalogix evaluated several Managed File Transfer (MFT) solutions, including SRT’s platform. Ultimately, SRT’s Managed File Transfer solution was selected for its strong security, automation features, ease of use, and flexibility in handling complex transfer needs.

The Challenge

Manage massive volumes of inbound and outbound data transfers while maintaining security, automation, and operational efficiency across complex workflows and partner integrations.

Solution

The implementation process at Datalogix navigated complex technical requirements, ultimately moving forward once firewall configurations were resolved. "South River Technologies’ support group has been great to work with," says Dave McCabe, Director of Data Center Operations. "They helped us to thoroughly test and hit the goals of our implementation plans."

Secure Data Transfer & Processing

Security is baked into the very first step of the Datalogix data intake process. As data feeds are received, the system automatically moves files into a "safe zone." In this isolated environment:

  • Antivirus scans are executed immediately.
  • Initial data cleansing is performed to ensure file integrity.
  • Data is staged securely before it ever touches the core internal network.

Automation & Workflow Integration

Datalogix makes extensive use of SRT’s events automation capability to replace manual tasks. Once a file is cleared in the safe zone, an internal workflow is triggered to process and analyze the data.

To handle external "pulls" that previously required manual logins, Datalogix implemented SRT’s WebDrive:

  • Drive Mapping: WebDrive maps a drive letter from the client computer directly to external partner servers.
  • Scheduled Transfers: This mapping allows for seamless, scheduled data retrieval.
  • On-Demand Flexibility: Previously defined batch transfers can also be launched manually whenever needed.

High Availability & Scalable Infrastructure

To ensure the platform can handle constant traffic without downtime, Datalogix is currently implementing a High Availability (HA) environment. This robust architecture includes:

  • Load Balancing: Distributing file transfer traffic across multiple services to maintain performance.
  • DMZ Protection: Utilizing SRT’s DMZ streaming server to shield the internal network from external threats.
  • Redundancy: Ensuring that the MFT platform remains operational even during peak volumes or hardware failures.

Results

The implementation of the SRT MFT platform transformed Datalogix’s data operations, making both inbound pulls and outbound deliveries significantly more efficient and easier to track. By integrating seamlessly with the internal workforce, the solution has become a cornerstone of their mission-critical applications.

Key Outcomes

  • Improved efficiency of inbound and outbound data transfers: Streamlined the movement of thousands of gigabytes of data between Datalogix and its member companies.
  • Enabled secure, automated data workflows: Replaced manual steps with automated "safe zone" processing, including antivirus scans and initial data cleansing.
  • Reduced manual data handling processes: Utilized WebDrive to automate data "pulls" from partner systems, eliminating the need for staff to log in manually.
  • Strengthened security and data tracking capabilities: Provided the robust tracking and encryption necessary to protect the sensitive data that serves as the company's backbone.
  • Supported large-scale, high-volume data operations: Created a scalable environment capable of handling massive transfers ranging from several hundred megabytes to multiple terabytes.
